JOB TITLE: System Specialist

DEPARTMENT: Information Technology

MUST MEET MINIMUM REQUIREMENT: Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Technology Science or related field from an accredited college or university; and Five (5) years of work experience in computer networking, Microsoft servers and desktop operating systems, database management; or Equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid Georgia driver’s license (Class C).

NATURE OF WORK: This position is a technical position responsible for assisting with the management, planning, coordination, and maintenance of the information systems for the City’s Departments. Work involves determining the information system needs; developing, implementing, monitoring, and maintaining the equipment and software necessary to meet these needs; and establishing procedures that will ensure the efficient and effective operation of the City’s data processing system.

SOME OF THE ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES INCLUDE: Provides systems administration for the various City Department’s computer resources; ensures data integrity for conversion and implementation of new systems as related to all departments and link-ups with other systems and locations. Installs and maintains computer software, hardware, and systems such as computers, laptops, network, servers, CCTV systems, telephone systems; performs general computer repair; works in networking any new equipment to servers or wireless networks; and coordinates any software installations and updates to desktops with Information Systems (IS) staff. Monitors availability of upgrades for computer programs; loads and activates computer programs and upgrades as they become available. Works with IT and other Department Directors to recommend purchases of hardware and software needed to operate systems within the designated Department. Responds to system service requests; develops and maintains schedule of regular back-up procedures for programs and data stored on computer. Provides technical support for various software systems by installing and applying update patches as needed. Installs and supports in-car video, body camera, digital recorders, cameras, air cards, cell phones, and video surveillance systems. Assists with running analysis reports from servers and other systems when requested. Assists with installation and upgrades of software. Serves as the Digital Evidence Custodian; stores evidence; provides video evidence when requested by the Court, District Attorney’s Office, and any open records requests; tracks the lifecycle of digital evidence; and assists the CID investigators when forensically collecting digital data. Sets up new employees in system. Prepares proposals for hardware and software. Coordinates, prepares, and maintains system and application design specifications, and procedures that define the requirements, roles, and schedule for maintenance and update of system data and end user procedures. Maintains and updates professional knowledge; reads technical journals and periodicals; and maintains contact with manufacturer representatives and other technical personnel to keep informed of new developments in information systems. Maintains required certifications. Assists in database related maintenance, upgrades and support internal and third party applications. Assists with monitoring and maintaining network security for all devices, software and users. Performs other related duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work is light work and requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force to move objects. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: balancing, feeling, fingering, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity, climbing, working above head, and walking.
